Manpower Training and Development: Employee Training
The employee must have the theoretical and practical knowledge of the work, he is required to perform. The theoretical knowledge can be gained in educational institutions but for the practical knowledge training is required. In this way, the training acquaints the employees with the real situations of the work and helps him in the faultless accomplishment of the work.
We generally see that when a new machine is in-
stalled in a factory, it is operated on trial basis before going into actual production. “Just as equipment needs a breaking in period, a new employee also needs a training period to adjust to the new environment”
Meaning and Definition
According to Flippo, training is the act of increasing the knowledge and skills of an employee for doing a particular job. The major outcome of training is learning. A trainee learns new habits; refined skills and useful knowledge during the training that helps him improve performance. Training enables an employee to do his present job more efficiently and prepare himself for a higher-level job. Training, thus, may be defined as a planned programme designed to improve performance and bring about measurable changes in knowledge, skills, attitude and social behaviour of employees.
In the words of Dale, S. Beach, “Training is the or-
ganized procedure in which people learn knowledge and/or skill for definite purpose”.
In this way, Training is the organized procedure by which the knowledge, ability, competence, skill personality and productivity is increased”
Features of Training
